LabTech currently offers two options for backup and recovery.  The first option is a simple backup procedure that can be set up and applied to computers and groups.  The second option uses Storage Crafts Shadow Protect ™ to take images of the entire computer.

Simple Backup and Recovery

The simple backup is configured on the Remote Backup tab of the computer screen.  It can automatically back all files in the My Document directories that are of a particular type.  This is designed as a last resort recovery path for documents that a user lost.  It can be configured to backup to a local share or an FTP directory.  Additionally in the Simple Backup and Recovery, you can specify a specific path to backup.  This could be the Quickbooks database directory or any other directory on the computer.   There are many low-cost FTP sites that you can sign up for that offer remote backup services to your client base.

Image Based Backup with Shadow Protect

If Shadow Protect is installed on a computer, the Shadow Protect tab shows up on the computer screen.  Shadow Protect tools allow for backup images to be restored on any computer, even if the hardware is completely different.  It is a great tool for performing migrations of servers.  LabTech is an OEM for Shadow Protect, so we can offer reseller pricing.  Contact the Sales Department for more details.

From the computer screen, you can perform 90% of the activities that the Shadow Protect configuration client offers.  You can set up, schedule, execute, or delete backup jobs.  Some of the options available are not even available on the Shadow Protect Configuration client.   In literally minutes, you can deploy Shadow Protect to a server with the Application Deployment Wizard and set up a backup job.

In order to restore files or systems, you have to use the Shadow Protect tools that come with the Shadow Protect software.
